How to Plant Geraniums in Baskets
Geraniums are very popular flowering plants that can be used in hanging baskets. A good porous soil or compost is necessary. You can also include plants like verbenas and dichondra with the geraniums to provide some variety.
Step 1 Hang up the basket so you can easily insert plants in the sides of the basket.
Step 2 Insert a biodegradable coir liner with holes in the sides.
Step 3 Fill the coir liner, one-third from the top, with compost or a porous potting soil.
Step 4 Add a few handfuls of water-retaining gel.
Step 5 Insert geraniums up the sides of the basket into the holes of the coil liner and carefully push the rootballs through the holes from the outside of the basket.
Step 6 Insert a dichondra with each of the geraniums to provide some variety.
Step 7 Plant the verbenas in the center of the basket and the rest of the geraniums and dichondra around the edges.
Step 8 Add some slow-release fertilizer to the soil or compost.
Step 9 Fill the rest of the basket with the soil or compost to 2 cm below the rim.
Step 10 Push the soil or compost down firmly with your fingers.
Step 11 Water the plants in the basket thoroughly, allowing it to drain well.
